How Do You Know if You Need Humidification?

Humidification is an invisible aspect in an environment, yet it plays a crucial role in keeping a space comfortable for people and in how other items in the space perform.

Many industries have long recognized the benefits of proper humidification and actively manage that with systems designed to meet their needs. Here are just  a few:

Data Centers: Humidification is a key component to mitigate the potential of ESD (electrostatic discharge) in sensitive areas, rooms or buildings. ESD happens when the sudden flow of electricity from one object to another, caused by contact, results in an electrical breakdown. The result can potentially shut down computers, servers or sensitive equipment. Manufacturers have specifications on what relative humidity percentage is required for their equipment to operate optimally.

Print Rooms: Paper loses moisture rapidly and the more paper in a space the more chances of ESD and degradation of the paper and print quality. Most paper/mill rooms require 50% humidity, +/-5.

Humidors: Humidification in a humidor is vital to maintain the moisture in each cigar. Cigar humidors should be kept at 65% and 75% to maintain the proper moisture in the cigar for a good burn.

Ultrasonic Humidification in humidors has become more popular to create a much better user experience with a cool mist high humidity rather than a muggy, steamy feeling when entering a humidor.

Music Rooms/Studio/Piano Rooms: Humidification is vital not only to the wood in an instrument but also to the sound of the instrument. Most industry experts and manufacturers recommend instruments like acoustic guitars, pianos and violins should be stored in an environment that maintains between 40-50% humidity year-round.

Wine Barrel Rooms: Barrels are expensive. In order to protect each barrel during the fermenting stage, humidity and temperature controls are vital. Maintaining humidity levels replicates the aging profile of each wine and  will yield the bests results.

Although corks are not necessarily used in barrel rooms, corks needs moisture too. A cork will expand to help prevent the leakage of wine and seal the right amount of oxygen into the wine bottle. Maintaining the humidity between 40-50% in a wine room will prevent the cork from drying out and cracking when opened or worse, leaking your fine wine out of the bottle while it’s aging.

There are many other industries such as greenhouses, museums, manufacturing, bakeries and  hospitals that also rely on humidification systems to ensure the best outcomes and quality.

How do you know if you need humidification in your space?

If you depend on a stable climate to deliver your best products and services then you will benefit from a system that will allow you to perfectly balance the temperature with the humidity to produce the optimal environment for your application.
